In the Midwest

If you’ve been outside lately, you’ve probably seen it — mushrooms popping up overnight(Mushrooms are not a bad thing), weird brown patches creeping across your lawn, and that damp, heavy air that just won’t let up. Here in the Kansas City Northland, when we get this much rain and humidity during the season, it will create the perfect storm for lawn fungus to move in and take over.

Brown Patch

We’re not just talking about a few mushrooms, either. One of the biggest culprits right now is Brown Patch, a fast-spreading lawn disease that loves this kind of weather. It shows up as big, blotchy patches of brown, orange and sometimes yellow grass and can really do some damage if it’s not treated early. What makes this distinguishable is the fact that these patches can be surrounded by perfectly green grass.

Fungal issues like Brown Patch

It doesn't just make your yard look bad — it weakens your grass at the root level. That means even after the spots fade, your lawn could be left thin, patchy, and vulnerable to more problems down the road. Unfortunately, fungus won’t go away on its own. Without treatment or an extreme drop in humidity, it can hang around and keep spreading anytime there is precipitation.

So what’s causing it?

A mix of soaked soil, muggy air, and poor drainage — plus things like evening watering or over-fertilizing can make it worse. Even healthy lawns are having a hard time holding up.

It's Frustrating, We Know

We get it — dealing with lawn disease can feel frustrating, especially when you’re doing everything “right.” But sometimes, it’s just the Midwest weather working against you. That’s where a professional fungicide treatment makes the difference. It targets the fungus directly and helps break the cycle, so your lawn has a chance to recover and stay green all summer long.

We want to be clear, a fungicide treatment treats the brown patch grass fungus; it will not treat mushrooms. Mushrooms are a sign of healthy soil. Having thatch in your lawn and a lot of moisture will grow mushrooms. The only way to get rid of those is by pulling them or mowing them.

Here’s the good news:
