Lawn Care FAQs
Fertilization, Weed Control, Grub & Insect Prevention, Aeration & Overseeding
If you see weeds in your lawn, please call or text us immediately. Service calls are free to address weeds that appear between treatments.
Please do not pull weeds yourself. Pulling weeds can leave roots behind, allowing them to return. Let our team identify and treat the problem properly.
To avoid damaging flowers, shrubs, and ornamental plants, we do not spray landscape beds during lawn applications.
We offer a separate landscape bed weed control program designed to prevent and control weeds in mulch beds and landscaped areas.
Most lawns benefit from multiple applications throughout the year. Our programs are designed around Kansas City lawn conditions and include seasonal fertilization and weed control treatments that support healthy growth and help reduce weed pressure.
Professional fertilization helps:
- Promote deeper root growth
- Improve lawn color
- Increase turf density
- Improve drought tolerance
- Help grass recover from stress
A thicker lawn naturally leaves less room for weeds to grow.
Our grub and insect prevention program helps protect lawns from common turf-damaging insects, including:
- Grubs
- Chinch bugs
- Armyworms
- Sod webworms
Preventive treatments help support healthy roots and stronger turf throughout the growing season.
We cannot prevent moles, and grub control is not a guarantee against mole activity.
We recommend using a quality mole stake or trap available through Amazon and other retailers. If you have questions about mole activity, feel free to contact our team.
Preventive grub control is typically applied during spring and early summer before grub populations become active. Proper timing helps support healthy root systems and stronger turf throughout the season.
Aeration helps relieve soil compaction and allows air, water, and nutrients to reach the root zone more effectively.
Benefits include:
- Improved root growth
- Better water absorption
- Increased nutrient uptake
- Reduced soil compaction
- Stronger overall lawn health
Overseeding is the process of spreading new grass seed into an existing lawn. When combined with aeration, overseeding helps fill thin areas, improve density, and create a thicker, more uniform lawn.
For cool-season grasses common in Kansas City, fall is typically the best time for aeration and overseeding. Spring can also provide good results depending on lawn conditions.
Before your scheduled aeration service:
- Mow your lawn
- Water your lawn the day before service
- Mark sprinkler heads, invisible dog fences, and other obstacles
This helps us perform the service safely and effectively.

Mushrooms often appear when soil contains high levels of organic matter and moisture.
This may happen after heavy rainfall or when old tree roots are decomposing underground. There is no chemical treatment for mushrooms, but they usually disappear naturally after several mowings.
When applied according to label directions, our treatments are designed to be used safely on residential properties. We will provide any post-treatment instructions needed after service.
Turf Care FAQs
Turf care focuses on the health of your soil and grass. By evaluating lawn conditions, soil quality, nutrient levels, pest activity, and disease concerns, we can recommend treatments that improve overall lawn health.
Healthy soil supports:
- Stronger root systems
- Better nutrient absorption
- Improved drought tolerance
- Thicker grass growth
- Greater resistance to pests and disease
A healthy lawn starts below the surface.
Bare spots can result from:
- Soil compaction
- Drought stress
- Insect damage
- Disease
- Pet activity
- Poor soil conditions
Our team can identify the cause and recommend the appropriate solution.
Mushrooms often appear when soil contains high levels of organic matter and moisture.
This may happen after heavy rainfall or when old tree roots are decomposing underground. There is no chemical treatment for mushrooms, but they usually disappear naturally after several mowings.
For tall fescue lawns, we recommend mowing at 3.5 to 4 inches.
During hot summer months, allowing the grass to grow slightly taller can help:
- Reduce heat stress
- Improve moisture retention
- Limit weed growth
- Reduce disease pressure
Most lawns require:
- 1 to 1.25 inches of water per week during cooler months
- Approximately 1.5 inches per week during summer
Deep, infrequent watering is preferred over short daily watering cycles because it promotes deeper root growth.
